I’ve been gathering some images from the film and artist renderings. I know the daemon comes off as a dark shadow in the book but more of a fire devil in the film. So I am trying to balance both as much as possible in the final idea.

My thoughts
I am thinking of capturing the point in which Balrog starts to fall down the cave so as to only have to show most of his head and the rest can then be in shadow. Then more of the focal point can be on Gandalf and the bearers in the back.
